Over the weekend, I made my weekly trip for a slice of pizza at The Coop. They make the best pizza on the westside and the staff is quirky yet super friendly. It’s located at the corner of Palm and National right by Victor’s Meats.

So while i was waiting for my delicious $2 slice of cheese, this homeless lady i’ve around the neighborhood for years came into the Coop’s tiny store. She handed the owner a Christmas card and then left. The card was signed by about seven other bums as well as this elderly hooker. Bless her heart, this was one of the nicest moments I’ve witnessed this Christmas! The people who have the least took the time to say thanks. That’s really the Christmas spirit! As the owner pointed out, it would have been better if they had repaid her some of the money they owed for pizza, but nevertheless, bless her heart, what a sweet gesture!

And this is why The Coop Pizza is my restaurant pick of the week. Also, they sell a colossal, extra-large cheese, which is tasty and a great value!

Some of the best pizza, salad, and pasta in LA are located in a small, family-owned pizzeria in the heart of historic Palms, CA right by the 10/405 interchange off National. Mama’s Original Pizza is located on 3311 Motor Ave. Not only has this historic venue been crancking out pizzas for years, but the building itself used to be an old fire house. In fact, some of the classic Laurel and Hardy episodes were shot there. The decor is vintage and beautiful, featuring old Coke signs and stained glass windows.

Mama even whips up some daily specials! The salads are all massive and frankly taste quite unique compared to most of the fodder you’ll find around LA. If you live in Palms or the nothern part of Culver City, Mama even delivers! I recommend two pizzas: the Godfather and the classic Marguerita. I also love the Chicken Capri pasta dish!
